Voltage Flicker Testing

This test is to measure the level of voltage fluctuations and flicker impressed on the public low-voltage system.

EN 61000-3-3 Electromagnetic Compatibility Part 3-3 Limitation of voltage changes, voltage fluctuations and flicker in public low-voltage supply systems

This standard is a Product Family Standard and gives limits of voltage fluctuations and flicker impressed on the public low-voltage system from equipment having an input current up to and including 16 A per phase.

Within its scope the standard covers essential requirements as given in Annex 1 Article 1(a) of the EC Directive 2004/108/EC (Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC)) and essential requirements of Article 3.1(b) (emission only) of the EC Directive 1999/5/EC (Radio and telecommunications terminal equipment (RTTE)).

It specifies limits of voltage changes which may be produced by equipment tested under specified conditions.

It is applicable to electrical and electronic equipment having an input current up to and including 16 A per phase, and intended to be connected to the public low-voltage distribution systems of between 220 V and 250 V line to neutral at 50 Hz.

Tests need not be made on equipment which is unlikely to produce significant voltage fluctuations or flicker.

It may be necessary to determine, by a short functional test, whether significant voltage fluctuations are likely to be produced.

Observation period for assessment of flicker values by flicker measurement method shall be:

for Pst Tp = 10 min

for Plt Tp = 2 h
